My grandfather Milton Madden is fixing to retire after 22 years. He is definitely a true hero, especially to me. For over 20 years he has drove nearly 100 miles a day to work and back. Of all those years I can count on both hands how many days he has missed due to sickness, inclement weather, etc. During his time he worked there he has been stabbed, worked the yard, death row, and many other areas of the maximum security prison. During his time there he dealt with a deadly skin cancer, which he still continued to work during this time, except for when he had absolutely had to miss. He has received the Employee of the month award more than once I believe. He has gotten letters from the warden praising his hard work. He also received an award in Frankfort Ky due to his great work in the field. He was also featured on a part of CNN Lockdown when they did their special on the Kentucky State Penitentiary. For years he has braved the dangerous work conditions with many people that most have nightmares over. He has never once had any disciplinary action against him, because frankly he has always done everything with his job right. He has been at KSP longer than anyone that is still working there now, and never has asked for any recognition at all. I would like to see that when he retires in less than a month on May 1 that he gets some much deserved recognition for his hard work making sure that the worst criminals we would put inside prison stay there, and do not hurt the general public, as well as the other brave men and women that work there each day.
